2019
Amsterdam and Berlin
Study Tour
In 2019 I was fortunately selected as a part of the Collie Print Trust Fund to embark on a three week study tour where we got to learn traditional print methods: letterpress, screen printing and the art of lettering.

P98 Letterpress Workshop Berlin
With Erik Spiekermann
On the Fourteenth of May 2019 we had a workshop with the amazing typographer,
designer, and writer Erik Spiekermann. Erik is well known for his work with Nokia, Adobe, and his book ‘Stop stealing sheep and find out how type works.’ His design consultancy MetaDesign now has three studios in Berlin, San Francisco, and Zurich.

We were advised to pick a typical "Aussie" saying. I went with 'Rough as Guts' and 'K mate.' We then got to construct our quotes with the furniture. Erik has a large array of typefaces but his large wooden pieces were incredible. In 'K mate' the large wooden 'k' had many imperfections making the piece so effective. The hardest element in constructing a letterpress plate is using the correct leading and kerning.

This was an incredible experience
Martina Flor - Berlin
Hand Lettering Workshop
Freedom is Happy Hour
Martina Flor is a Berlin-based designer and illustrator who specialises in lettering and font design. Martina works with agencies, magazines, and publishing houses to create stunning typography for large and small projects.
This year we had to opportunity to do a workshop with Martina. She taught us her process in creating custom type, with the use of a lot of transparent paper, the outcomes were unique to each individual, something you can't get using a generic typeface.
